To celebrate its 25th anniversary, La Linea Festival is partnering with CASA to bring an exciting dance workshop and social to Brixton House, led by the incredible QUEER SALSA.

CASA celebrates Latin American, Caribbean, and diasporic stories through diverse arts programmes that inspire reflection and dialogue. Founded in 2007 as a theatre festival, it has grown into a multidisciplinary platform, now with a home at Brixton House. In partnership with La Linea Festival—the UK’s leading Latin music festival—we are excited to present an evening of dance and inclusivity, celebrating the power of movement, music, and community.

Sunday 27th April – Schedule:

The focus will be on how to communicate and connect with each other through dance, while also covering the fundamentals like the basic step and more fun moves like spins. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have met a bunch of new cuties and feel ready to salsa the night away!

Tropican Dance has a deep connection to the Afro-Latin roots of the dances we love and he will show you how to connect with the freedom of these rhythms.

More experienced dancers from the community will be taking on the role of Guardian Dancers, they will be approaching you for a dance and will be there for extra support on moves.

All workshops are free, but RSVP is required to secure your place.

No RSVP needed for the DJ set! Popola is free to drop in, but space is limited. First come, first served.

About Queer Salsa

Queer Salsa is a community-led collective where LGBTQIA+ people come together to dance, connect, and celebrate Afro-Latin music and movement.

Afro-Latin communities have long used music and dance as a form of resistance, yet their culture continues to be exploited by the very systems it helped challenge. As queer dancers, we honour this lineage by deepening our understanding of its history, uplifting Afro-Latin practitioners and communities, and ensuring they are consistently represented and materially supported in what we build.

By centering the roots with care and connection, we nurture queer communities both on and off the dance floor.

Eliades Ochoa is considered one of the most renowned Cuban “soneros” of all time, a notable celebrator of traditional Cuban music, and one of the best guitarists of his generation.

Back in 1997 when he shot to international recognition as a member of the Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social Club, Eliades was the young gun. True, he was by then in his 50th year – but he was still in the flush of youth compared to legendary veterans Compay Segundo and Ibrahim Ferrer, with whom he duetted unforgettably on classic songs such as “Chan Chan” and “Candela”.

A quarter of a century later, Eliades is now the veteran with a legendary back story of his own and Guajiro presents Cuba’s very own ‘Man In Black’ as we’ve never heard him before. “The album tells a lot about me and my history,” he says. “It’s really the story of my life and each song has a lot of meaning.”

Seu Jorge’s career is a rich tapestry that bridges music, cinema, and culture together. Rising from the vibrant samba circles of Rio’s outskirts, he has become a global icon. Known for his velvety voice and genre-blending artistry, Seu Jorge has shaped Brazilian music through albums like Samba Esporte Fino and Cru, while collaborating with luminaries including Marisa Monte and David Bowie.

He gained international fame with his role in City of God and as the Bowie-singing sailor in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. In the film, Seu Jorge reimagined Bowie’s classics such as Life on Mars?, Rebel Rebel, and Starman, infusing them with Brazilian warmth and soul. Bowie himself praised Jorge’s interpretations, saying:

“Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese, I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.”

For this special performance at The Roundhouse, Seu Jorge will bring his soulful interpretations to life alongside highlights from his genre-defying discography. With a career spanning over 30 years, 7 solo albums, 3 Latin Grammys, and collaborations with some of the world’s greatest artists, Seu Jorge continues to captivate audiences with his timeless music and unparalleled stage presence.

Over the past few years, New Regency Orchestra has taken the music scene by storm. With its powerful 12-piece horn section, a razor-sharp 5-piece rhythm section, and dynamic NRO dancers, the orchestra breathes new life into the golden age of mambo and Latin jazz with electrifying energy and bold new arrangements.

“A hepcat big band with a vibe straight out of the Nuyorican barrios…a killer rhythm section, mighty wall of horns and moments of sparkling call-and-response between instruments and dancers – given a 21st century London twist with new influences, arrangements and attitude.” Evening Standard
